Match report. Masters Vs Mordialloc.,
Finally Footys Back! No better way to start the season (after a great pre season) hosting mordy at the dome.
With the influx of some great news players to the club we had a great side to start the season, the mood was upbeat and that transferred onto the field. We went with the breeze and totally dominated the 1st qtr. We missed a few opportunities to hit the scoreboard, however we still created these opportunities.
The 2nd quarter (against the breeze) was arguably our best qtr for the day, we ran the ball exceptionally well, used it very well and dominated breaking the lines, once again we failed to make an impact of our opportunities on the scoreboard, however we had a very handy buffer at the long break and kicking with the breeze again should’ve set up a comfortable 3/4 time lead, However mordy had other ideas, they dominated this qtr through pace and great ball use, it seemed like they had 20 players on the deck and had loose men and run everywhere. They reduced the margin to an achievable amount at 3/4 time, with the strong breeze in there favour for the final quarter.
We rallied together at the huddle and hoped we could implement the way we played the 2nd qtr and wrestle back the momentum mordy had, it was an arm wrestle for the 1st 10mins and they kicked a couple of goals. Nervous times were upon the group and not to mention we had only one fit player on the bench due to injuries of some of our Key position players. We had to go an extra in defence and this helped stem the flow, not to mention a couple of game changing crunch marks deep in defence when they had all of the flow. We managed to get another major on the board with 5min to go and this margin was never decreased from then on, considering the injuries in the last qtr and having our back against the wall, the boys left out on the deck rallied together to ensure we weren’t going to lose this game.
The depth and resilience is a credit to this playing group and showed some great signs of a good 2018 campaign. Great gutsy win lads, cheers JL
