2013
At the Raiders Brendan Anderson continued as President, Mark Leonard continued as Vice President, Ross Twyford continued as Secretary and Glenn Stevens continued as Treasurer. Shane Mottram was appointed Supers coach with Mark Leonard Masters coach and Garry Wilson Legends coach. Preseason training was held at Mace Oval from early November 2012. We had a break over Christmas then continued from the 16th of January in 2013. We did a lot of fitness work as well as skills training. The usual influx of new players was good again with a lot if new faces at training. Training back at Alexandra Park commenced on Wednesday the 20th of March. On Sunday the 24th of March the Raiders played Melbourne Superules in practice matches at Narambi Reserve in Mornington. Masters and Legends played a combined game before the Supers played.
The Raiders introduced a new Jumper for season 2013. We went back to a predominately Navy Blue jumper with a Gold and White “V”. This meant new navy shorts and socks too t hanks to the generous sponsorship of Gian and Vince Gucciardo from “GB Galvanising”. This is the 4th different style of jumper worn by the Peninsula Raiders in their 17 year history. We had 2 trainers at games for the first time except when we had teams at different venues. The South Zone division was redrawn for 2013 with only 8 teams. This meant more games with nearby clubs and 7 out of 10 rounds that had Triple Headers both at home and away. The only single team Supers club was Parkdale with all others having at least 2 teams. The multiple team clubs are: Bayside(3), Eastern(3), Frankston(3), Raiders(3), Mordialloc(2), Cranbourne(2), Carrum(2) and Parkdale. Masters play Beaconsfield and Legends play Diamond Valley when Supers play Parkdale and Legends play Craigieburn in Rd7 when Supers and Masters play Carrum Paterson Lakes away. Legends also had a bye in Rd4 when Supers and Masters played Cranbourne. The Raiders wore White “Clash” shorts for the first time in Rd4 v Cranbourne. This will mean that we should not need to have a clash jumper with clubs who also have dark jumpers. Grant Barran won the AFLM South Zone Supers goal kicking award with 45 goals in the home and away games. That is a record for goals in a season for the Raiders. He also won the club Supers Best & Fairest award. Darren Gration in his first season at the club won the Masters B&F and Shane Turner won the Legends B&F. Both the Supers and Masters played finals in 2013. The Masters team was beaten by 2 points in its Semi Final against Frankston at Mordialloc. The Supers team won through to the Grand Final by beating Mordialloc by 40pts in its Semi Final. The Grand Finals were held at Casey Fields in Cranbourne. The Raiders were at full strength for the game against Frankston. Unfortunately we lost by 30 points. At the club Presentation night Ash Ackehurst and Vin Brown were awarded Life Membership. Julie Stevens was the “Best Clubman” for her fantastic work as Canteen Manager this season. Ross Twyford won the “Stephen Knights Award”.
